Just What is OASIS Anyway?
OASIS is Columbia College Chicago's comprehensive student administrative system. OASIS is an acronym standing for Online Administrative Student Information System. Here are some brief notes on its features:
Registration on the web
OASIS allows students to register for classes and pay tuition and fees on the web.
Faculty advising
OASIS allows faculty members to focus on the work of guiding
students through their programs of study. These advisement sessions
occur prior to the actual registration period. Degree audit: Using the
information found on the student's program enrollment record, the
degree audit allows the student and his or her advisor to see how
completed coursework applies toward his or her degree program. The
student will be able to process an online "what-if?" to see how a
change in major would affect his or her timeline for graduation.
Learning Management System (LMS)
The LMS is a
set of collaborative tools that is used by both faculty and
students. This tool allows faculty to share syllabi, handouts, and
require readings, on-line track student's attendance and grades and
administer online quizzes or tests. The testing component allows the
faculty to use their own test banks to create tests, and the test bank can be rolled over to the next
term. This module will also allow the faculty to use any of these
features for any class section that they are teaching. The students, in
turn, can view syllabi, handout schedules, and required readings, and
take tests online for any course for which the faculty use this tool.
Student Financial Services
This component consists of the financial aid module and the student
billing module. The financial aid module has features such as document
tracking, automatic packaging, and award letter generation. The billing
module allows for the SFS staff to produce statements over an academic
year or a bill by term. The system will allow the students to check
their status pf Financial Aid and charge directly on line via the
web/portal.
Admissions
The admission module allows the Admissions offices to enter
applications and track the process of these applicants through the
formal admit stage. This module will be used for both graduate and
undergraduate applicants. The module has features for tracking
documents, letter production, and elements for all the student data
that Columbia wishes to maintain before admission to the College.
