High School Summer Institute

Due to extremely low attendance at all of our HSSI Campus Events, we are canceling the remaining calendar of events for the rest of the program.  The end of the program celebration—Showcase—will still take place as planned on Friday, August 1st and we look forward to seeing you there!

HSSI Campus Events

We have planned a number of events for HSSI students. Get a taste of what it’s like to be part of the largest creative educational community in the country—inside and outside of the classroom.

Here is a list of the events we are planning, check the calendar to the left to find dates and times! All events will be held in the HSSI Student Lounge (623 S. Wabash) unless marked otherwise.

    July 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22**, and 23: 12pm-2pm
The weekly Afternoon Music Series features a rotating schedule of groups and solo artists who will perform in the Hokin Gallery. These events are free and open to the public.
  • Silver Tongue Cancelled
    July 7, 14, and 21: 8pm-9:30pm
Columbia College Chicago’s new Literary Reading Series, Silver Tongue is a weekly reading series typically curated by students like a gallery show, with rotating themes and genres.
  • Cinema Slapdown Cancelled
    July 16: 7pm-9:30pm
Columbia’s unique film screening series is a wildly entertaining crossbreed of film discussion and knock-down, drag-out debate.  At each session of Cinema Slapdown, we screen a well-known, though controversial, film.  Following the screening, two faculty members debate the film then open themselves to the feelings of the audience.  Fun.  Informative.  And maybe a little bit cathartic.
  • Admission Info Sessions Cancelled

  • Life Skills Workshop Cancelled
    July 1, 8*, 15: 5pm-6pm
