Some scholarship money is available within certain departments at Columbia; however most scholarships can be found directly through a student's chosen program provider or using independent organizations. Reference the list below to get you started.

Award Name: Atlas Shrugged
Description: The Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest is open to undergraduate students. To participate, you must read the novel and write an essay on a selected topic that can be found on the Web site. Essays are judged on both style and content. The winning essay must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of the book "Atlas Shrugged." Award Name: THINKSWISS Travel Grants for Swiss Life Sciences Summer School
Description: In 2008, four top Swiss universities will host two life sciences summer schools, which will take place at the EPFL in cooperation with the University of Lausanne and at the University of Zurich in a joint program with the ETH Zurich.
ThinkSwiss is offering travel grants to highly qualified and motivated U.S. participants in the 2008 Swiss Life Sciences Summer School Programs. The students will benefit from hands-on research, training and exposure to cutting-edge issues within a professional research community. Awardees of the travel grants will share their experiences by contributing to the ThinkSwiss Research Blog

Award Name: THINKSWISS Research Scholarship 2008
Description: For the second time, ThinkSwiss is offering 15 research scholarships for talented U.S. undergraduate and graduate students. These scholarships provide the awardees with a monthly stipend of $700 for a maximum of three months to conduct research at a Swiss university or research lab. The scholarship is open to students of all fields who have an outstanding academic record and a keen interest in conducting research in Switzerland.

Award Name: The Global Studies Grant for Student Travel and Study Abroad
Description: Designed to support foreign language training and other academic studies abroad, this grant provides supplemental funds for American students who already are studying abroad under the auspices of an official study abroad program conducted by an accredited academic institution. As with our faculty grants, GSF seeks to support a formative experience abroad for the recipient, who also must share this experience with others upon his or her return – ideally, with multiple audiences and varied media. We are particularly interested in funding the study of strategically significant countries and languages.

Description: The National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarships offer a unique opportunity for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad. NSEP awards scholarships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American & the Caribbean, and the Middle East). The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.
