TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS

The Department of Science and Mathematics at Columbia College Chicago seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Applied Mathematics.

The Department seeks candidates with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and an interest in developing and teaching innovative mathematics courses. Faculty members are also expected to be active in scholarship and professional development and participate in College and Departmental service.  Preference will be given to candidates with an expressed interest in taking on primary responsibility for teaching and curriculum development in the area of applied mathematics, in addition to teaching existing courses such as Calculus II and Numerical Analysis. Evidence of ability to successfully integrate technology into the curriculum, collaborate with other departments, and teach interdisciplinary courses is also highly desirable.

A Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics is required for this position. The start date is August 16, 2009.

TWO TENURE-TRACK POSITIONS IN MATHEMATICS

The Department of Science and Mathematics at Columbia College Chicago seeks to fill two tenure-track positions in Mathematics. The department offers a broad science and mathematics curriculum for non-majors and fosters the integration of science and mathematics with other disciplines, especially visual, media, and performing arts. 

For both positions, the Department seeks candidates with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and an interest in teaching a variety of mathematics courses.  Faculty members are also expected to be active in scholarship and professional development and participate in College and Departmental service.  Preference will be given to candidates with an expressed interest in taking on primary responsibility for teaching and curriculum development in one of the following areas:

Pre-Calculus and Statistics:  The Department's offerings in this area includes courses in College Algebra, College Algebra with Trigonometry, and Introduction to Statistical Methods.  Candidates should emphasize their strategies for teaching Pre-Calculus and Statistics in their application materials.  Applicants for this position must reference “Pre-Calculus and Statistics” in all of their correspondence.

Liberal Arts Math:  Preference for this position will be given to applicants interested in developing and teaching a liberal arts mathematics course.  The successful candidate will be expected to be innovative in the curricular and pedagogical design of this course, with a goal of exposing students to intellectually and aesthetically interesting mathematical topics not covered in traditional curricula.  Applicants for this position must reference “Liberal Arts Math” in all of their correspondence.

Part-time Appointments


EVENING OFFICE MANAGER
Science & Mathematics Department
Columbia College Chicago

The Science and Mathematics Department has an opening for a Part-Time Evening Office Manager. The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: assisting evening students and instructors, serving as floor Fire Marshal, maintaining necessary level of supplies, entering timesheets, scheduling AV equipment, monitoring room cleaning and scheduling additional cleaning if necessary, serve as managing student workers to ensure they complete assigned work. The position requires the ability to function with minimal supervision, creatively address problems and good communication skills. High school diploma or equivalent required, BA preferred. Knowledge of computer hardware, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft Office is a plus.
