WCRX

WCRX 88.1FM is a non-commercial radio station owned and operated by Columbia College Chicago. WCRX provides music, news, sports, and community affairs programming Monday through Saturday from 7AM to 12 midnight.

WCRX is student staffed with direction and advising from Faculty Advisors in the Radio Department. Students have the opportunity to work on air as jocks, talk hosts, news and sports anchors, sports play-by-play announcers or behind the scenes in management, programming, promotion and production.

WCRX reaches various portions of the Chicago area. The sound of its contemporary music format is enhanced through the use of sophisticated computer programs and state of the art information services in a newly remodeled all-digital studio.

Our slogan is "Chicago's Underground" meaning that we play brand new music by non-mainstream artists, yet very well known bands in the underground genre. Student talent also host a variety of specialized programs that include: Talk, Metal, Jazz, R&B, Rap, Alternative, Blues and Meringue.

The award winning WCRX News Department offers invaluable experience to students who are interested in broadcast journalism. As an Associated Press affiliate, student anchors are able to provide the latest news and sports during drive time. The WCRX News Department has received several awards for special programming and election night coverage.

WCRX also broadcasts select regular season UIC Flames men and women's basketball games. Our student broadcast team provides live play-by-play and color analysis for every game.

WCRX is committed to the community by airing programming that is responsive to the interests and needs of our listeners. We carry a variety of public service programming including President Bush's weekly radio address and the democratic response. Our public service initiatives like the WCRX Job Line and our annual Holiday food drive have resulted in several station awards.
