Supplemental Instruction

Some Facts About Supplemental Instruction

This fall 2008 term, if you are a student enrolled in Introduction to Audio, History of Art I, Science of Electronics, or Biomechanics, you are in courses that offer Supplemental

Instruction (SI) Peer Study Sessions, which means you’re lucky. These courses can be tough and it’s a fact that most people who participate in SI get higher grades than those who don’t.

What is SI?

• SI is an interactive peer study group that teaches

students how to learn and what to learn.

• SI transforms complex subjects into information

that is easier to comprehend.

• SI is not tutoring.

• SI participants learn study strategies: note

taking, graphic organization, questioning

techniques, vocabulary acquisition, and test

preparation.

• SI is not re-lecturing.

• SI sessions are anonymous, voluntary, and free

to enrolled students in SI courses.

• SI participants generally earn higher grades,

improve their self-esteem, and are more

comfortable in small groups.

All SI session times and locations for specific courses are posted on this Web site. Check it out.
